Flamenco guitar

Originally the flamenco guitar was used to accompany singing and dancing. That is why flamenco guitar makers were asked to build a loud instrument. The luthiers solved this by building bodies with strong, brilliant, high notes, a high volume in the middle frequencies and a very short attack and decay time.

The Flamenco guitar responds instantly because it is very lightweight. The walls of the soundboard, bottom and sides are much thinner than those of a classical creating a much lighter weight. That is not only because it is made of cypress wood. The sides of a flamenco guitar are about 2,5 cm narrower.

The only visible difference between a flamenco guitar and a classical is the golpeador. Woods, finished in French polish, need to be very old aged, have a tight grained wood structure and a lot of little cross silk grain patterns.
