Cleaner and Polish preserver

Viol Cleaner and Preserving Polish 20 ml.

For cleaning, polishing and preserving stringed instrument varnishes.

To clean your instrument, please do not ever use any cleaner general used for cleaning furniture or polishing shoes. This would do more harm than good. Most standard cleaners contain alcohol which will take the French Polish finish right off! French polish is a very old art by hand. It isn't really a polish as we think of polish as in wax and polish, it's a finish in the sense that it's applied with a polishing and buffing action. The main ingredients in French polish are shellac flakes dissolved in denatured alcohol. That’s why using a cleaer with alcohol in it, will take the French Polish finish right off!

Oasis® Case Humidifier

€ 39.00

Learn more

You probably already know that your instrument can crack in dry weather. Repairing a cracked top of a fine guitar is both expensive and can alter the sound of your instrument. To solve this problem, guitarists have been using humidifiers since the 1960's. These humidifiers do have a number of drawbacks. The first is that you cannot see when they need to be refilled. When you do refill them, they can be overfilled and drip inside your expensive instrument. This is because all currently available humidifiers have openings to allow for water evaporation. The job of protecting the instrument against leaks is left to an absorbent medium such as a sponge or floral foam, which can be over saturated with water.

Dave Hepple has now developed the most effective and easy guitar case humidifier we have ever used, it's called the Oasis® guitar case humidifier.

This Oasis® set includes a steel belt clip, a stainless steel strip with adhesive backing, blue Oasis® humidifier filled with super absorbent Humigel™ polymer crystals and a 10cc. syringe. The Humigel™ crystals absorb 500 times their weight in water so the volume of dry crystals needed in the humidifier is extremely small (0.3 cubic centimeters to be exact), making them almost invisible at the bottom of the humidifier. The body of Oasis® is made from a specially designed fabric that allows water vapor (but not water) to pass through it. As the vapor transmission takes place, a vacuum is created and the Oasis® humidifier shrinks to compensate for the loss of water. Simply by watching the Oasis® shrink, every time you take your guitar out of your case, you can very easily see and determine when it is ready for a refill with distilled water. When refilling, you don't have to guess when it is full. Simply unscrew the black cap, fill with distilled water to the top of the container and replace the cap.

With this Oasis® guitar case humidifier, Dave also invented a simple way to integrated two neodymium magnets in the seam of the humidifier. These magnets then attach to the instrument case using either the included steel belt clip or the stainless steel strip with adhesive backing. This enables you to attach, remove and re-attach your blue Oasis® humidifier very easily to the inside of any of your instrument cases. The belt clip fits over the side of the case and provides a flat vertical surface for the magnets to adhere. The adhesive backed stainless steel strip allows for either vertical or horizontal attachment anywhere there is a flat surface inside the case. An advantage of this type of humidifier is the flexibility to position the humidifier in a wide variety of locations within your instrument case.

The syringe will increase your control during filling or refilling the humidifier. Since the humidifier holds about 32cc’s of water, it will take 3+ syringes of water to fill the first time. After that, refills should only take 1+ syringe of water. As always, we recommend the use of distilled water which will extend the useful life of your humidifier. The Humigel™ crystals inside the Oasis® guitar humidifier are designed to last a long time.

Important: When using your Oasis® guitar case humidifier for the first time, be careful not to turn your humidifier upside down in an attempt to try and look at the dry crystals. If you do turn the humidifier upside down, you might spill some of the dry crystals out decreasing the humidifier its capacity. Once the water has been absorbed by the dry crystals you will see them very easily.

French polish recoverer 250ml

€ 10.98

Learn more

With this product it is almost impossible to harm the French polish of your guitar. It's easy to apply even for untrained hands. When polishing dull and faded shellac surfaces with this polish, the wonderful shining look of your French polished guitar can be recovered. Only to be used if sufficient shellac is available on your guitar before applying. Surface Polish very finely polishes surfaces finished with Shellac (French polishing) and modern lacquers. Like all polishing products it removes a very small amount of material and should therefore only be used on surfaces that have enough thickness of the material to be polished. If there is hardly any shellac left on the surface of your guitar, this product will also not be able to polish it and may even remove the last bit.

Use “Surface Polish” for improving old French polished guitar surfaces and finishing off the quality of new French polishing.

How to improve, recover old French polished surfaces:
1. Remove old layers of shellac by degreasing your guitar with French polish cleaner and reviver.
2. Apply this 'Surface Polish' liberally to a soft cloth and start polishing the surface WITH LITTLE OR NO PRESSURE
3. Process relatively small sections at once.
4. Keep polishing until the surface is dry and clean again.
5. Repeat procedure if needed.
6. When finished, apply French polish protector or traditional wax to protect the finished surface.

Note: Surface Polish contains solvents so try it out on a scrap piece of the material to be treated to prevent unwanted effects! La Sonanta can not be held responsible for any incorrect use or damages, injuries either direct or indirect of any kind. French polish cleaner and reviver 200ml

€ 18.96

Learn more

The maintenance of French polish consist of no more than periodic cleaning of the French polish surfaces with this "Polish Reviver" and applying a layer of "Traditional wax".

Specifically designed for French polish surfaces, this product removes dirt from your French polished guitar and strengthens the flexibility of your wood grains. Also issues such as white and dull, dry or faded spots in your French polish will be revived. Additionally very small scratches (duster level) will flow back and the top layers will be tempered making them more resistant to moisture. With this product, it is almost impossible to harm the French polish of your guitar, so it can be applied by untrained hands easily. However to prevent absorption by the bare wood, polish reviver can only be applied to surfaces still having enough shellac layers left.

What is it?
There are a wide variety of polishes available on the market. Most of these will have either wax or oil as a base and come in the form of a cream, a liquid or an aerosol pack. The effectiveness of many of these polishes is due more to the addition of silicone to the formula, rather than the composition of the product itself. This Polish reviver is one of these special formulas made from a recipe over one hundred years ago, containing a special blend of secret ingredients which include pure cider vinegar and linseed oil.

What does it do?
Polish Reviver will melt away old layers of built-up wax or oil. It removes discoloration from smoke, dust or grime, making the French polish guitar surface like new. Polish Reviver will nourish, protect and enhance your French polished guitar surface, giving it a depth & clarity not seen since it was originally polished. In most instances it will remove watermarks from polished surfaces, hide scratches and remove or dramatically fade white rings on French polished and lacquered surfaces.

How do you use it?
To use French polish reviver first shake the bottle vigorously, then pour enough polish reviver onto a clean soft cloth to dampen it. Apply evenly to the surface of your guitar and buff off immediately with another clean soft rag. Second and subsequent coats may be needed.

For use in French Polishing and restoration
Polish Reviver can also be used as a final finish for new or restored French polishing work. If you are looking for a brilliant shine
allow the surface to dry hard for a few days.
Polishing the surface with Polish Reviver will not only bring up a brilliant shine, but also helps to protect your guitar against humidity fluctuations.

WARNING
1. NEVER LEAVE THE MOIST RAG OR THE OPEN BOTTLE SITTING ON THE SURFACE OF YOUR GUITAR as this may result in faded polish that cannot easily be repaired.
2. ALWAYS SHAKE BOTTLE VIGOROUSLY BEFORE APPLYING REVIVER TO YOUR RAG.
3. CAUTION - FLAMMABLE Contains: Methylated Spirits, turpentine & linseed oil.
4. Keep away from children and naked flames.
5. If swallowed seek immediate medical advice.
6. Leave rags open to dry or dispose of in water to prevent spontaneous combustion.
8. Please read the MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS by clicking on the pictures on your right.
7. La Sonanta can not be held responsible for any incorrect use or damages, injuries either direct or indirect of any kind

French polish Wax 250ml

€ 15.45

Learn more

With this traditional wax, your French polish is kept in good condition. Our traditional wax is specifically designed for French polished surfaces. It is based on a very old recipe (without silicone) and mainly contains Carnauba wax. It works extremely pleasant.

Of course this traditional wax is also excellent to use on non polished surfaces.

Best to apply after the French polished guitar surface is cleaned with our French polish reviver and may have been polished with our French polish recoverer. This wax is easy to apply and protects your French polished guitar without adding any colors.

What is it?
Traditional wax is a general-purpose wax paste made from a unique blend of mineral and natural waxes (including ceresin and carnauba), with a clean fresh fragrance. This special blend of waxes make this traditional wax very easy to work with, even for untrained hands. When finished you will have a non-sticky guitar surface that will not attract dust or finger marks. Traditional Wax is easy to apply, easy to buff to shine and leave the French polish surface with an almost sensual feel.

This French polish protector or wax does not give a wet plastic look to timber but imparts a lustrous and slightly dry looking shine reflecting a fine antique feeling. Traditional Wax is about the consistency of margarine, making it easy to apply on French polished guitar surfaces.

How do I use it to maintain the French polish of my guitar?
This wax delivers a clear shine and is very easy to use, even for untrained hands. Make sure the surface of the guitar is clean. If needed use French polish cleaner and reviver to first clean the surface. Next apply a thin coat of this 'Traditional Wax' with a soft lint-free cloth.. Leave to dry for approximately 5 minutes (10 minutes for heavy detailed work), buff off with a clean soft rag and you’re done. Master grade Madagascar Rosewood Set

The density of this rosewood is approximately 850kg/m3. This rosewood has an extremely high velocity of sound and a broad range of overtones. Rosewoods are denser giving the guitar more sustain, more depth of tone, sounding slightly mellower and richer. They have strongly pronounced low overtones giving the flamenco guitar an overall darkness of tone. If the flamenco guitar is designed properly, this rosewood enables strong mids and highs to strengthen the overtones generated by the top, contributing to a very enchanting fatness of tone on the upper registers.

This rosewood has highly figured, beautiful multi colored grains varying from violet through shades of orange and brown. This wood usually darkens during its drying and finishing processes.

The trees from the region where dalbergia baroni is found are not of great diameter. The characteristic black streaks, known as “spider webbing”, are always on the exterior of the trunk. In order to obtain as much pattern as possible the backs are sawn flat. The sides, however are sawn to a perfect quarter, and these tend to have less markings because they are cut from the centre of the log.

Due to the narrowness of the trees and to the fact that the spider webbing is on the extrerior part of the trunk, when we cut the backs the pattern changes rapidly throughout the log, often producing a slight asymmetry. We will never find two Madagascar rosewood guitars the same, each set is different and this is an asset of its beauty. Learn More

Shellac light blonde 230 grams

The French polish finishing process of a flamenco guitar takes about 1 weeks to complete. During 16 up to 18 sessions, each interrupted for drying and hardening reasons, about 100 thin shellac layers are applied by hand with a cotton pad until a high gloss is achieved. The name ‘French polishing’ comes from a French cabinet maker who developed this technique around 1820. Since this is a very time consuming and final step in making a flamenco guitar, it is also quite expensive. Unfortunately, more and more, the expensive labor cost of French polish is replaced by more economical synthetic, hard cellulose spray or lacquer, making new flamenco guitars as affordable as possible in factories. Although modern techniques have enabled luthiers to apply lacquer properly and just as thin as French polish, the truly outstanding flamenco guitar makers, located in small workshops building entirely by hand, still have the experience to apply finish to woods by hand with a cotton pad, the so called French polish.
Most handmade flamenco guitar makers as well as classical and flamenco guitarists agree that the acoustic properties of French polish are far superior to that of any other finish. French polish allows a handmade flamenco guitar to realize its greatest sound potential. The shellac of French polish is a non synthetic, natural product, a gummy pore substance of swarms of tiny tree insects. Since shellac bonds perfectly to wood it is very compatible with the acoustic properties of woods. Since shellac is applied only a few hundredths of a millimeter thick, the muting properties are less than these of stiffer synthetic finishes, improving the sound projection capabilities and enhancing the tone richness of a real flamenco guitar.

French polishing is a way of applying shellac finish by hand, rubbed on with a small cloth pad and should be considered as applying polish. The term polishing only refers to the intensive rubbing in order to apply shellac smoothly and perfectly. Learn More

Learn More

Guitar Bridge Bone pre-shaped G string compensation

€ 12.85

Learn more

Length 80mm, width 3mm, height 9mm. String side rounded and ready for use, with G string compensation, in most cases you only need to adjust the height and width (sanding and polishing).

Due to the extra stiffness of the thicker G string, the G string will be stretched more than the other strings when playing. As a result the pitch of the G string increases more. By moving the saddle slightly backwards at the point where the G string rests on the bone, this pre-shaped bridge bone, compensates that effect.

Easy to use! Wipe strings gently with the String Care cleaning cloth. The yellow cloth will darken with use, but will continue to be an effective cleaner. Polish with the gray cloth, leaving as much of the protective shield as is desired to make the strings slick.
Not for lacquered surfaces. Use only for metal strings. 100% cotton flannel cloth. Non-toxic. Environmentally responsible. Not tested on animals.
Contains one (1) specially treated cloth (approximately 8" x 10") and one (1) buffing cloth.
Special Note: It is this cloth that is recommended by the well known guitar repairman Dan Erlewine, in "The Guitar Player Repair Guide", a best-seller in the field of guitar repair.
When grime and dirt have built up along the edges and between the frets and the wood itself, the board requires a thorough going-over. However, if you wipe your strings clean after playing, there will be less chance for dirt to build up. Learn More

Guitar nut pre-slotted six string black composite

€ 28.32

Learn more

To replace or upgrade the nut on your flamenco or classical guitar.

This nut bone is a composite material which is precision engineered under high pressure and heat. It is specially formulated to deliver optimum frequency transfer to the top of your guitar. It is a very resonant material. This resonance results in a very full and deep sound. It also is a consistent material allowing every note to sound just as clear and full as the next. In comparison, bone has natural grains which cause dead spots. These dead spots damp balance in tone and harmonic content.

One of the main causes of tuning frustration is string binding on the nut.  This specific nut material is impregnated with PTFE, the slipperiest substance on earth, to alleviate the binding grip the nut has on the strings.  String simply glide back into tune! It has a flat bottom and is pre-slotted for a quick and simple install. If it’s too thick, place a 400 to 600 grit sand paper face up on a flat surface and sand down the sides of the nut until it fits in the slot snugly but still easily removable.
